Inspirational Profiles

Previous Sporting Achievements:
I have always been active, never been able to sit still and always had that drive to push myself to the limits.
Growing up, I was an elite junior ballet dancer. I danced from the age of 5-18 for 30-35 hours a week most of those years. During this time, I won numerous competitions and was selected for several development programs with some of the world’s best teachers. The main achievement during my dancing career was being selected to attend the Australian Ballet School at age 15.
As well as dancing, I undertook numerous other sports from tennis, netball and even boundary umpired in the Eastern Football League.
I started competing in Natural Bodybuilding as a sports model in 2010 before taking the step up to compete in Figure in 2011, where I was lucky enough to place 3rd in the novice line up of 12 amazing girls at the ANB Vics.

Daniel has been seriously training for about 9 years, I developed a passion for natural bodybuilding through my own weight loss and have continued to build a passion for transforming people lives through nutrition, emotional balance and exercise ever since. Since competing in my first bodybuilding show at the ANB Championships 2010, I have found that I also have the passion for competition, with a second go in 2011 in the intermediate division. A certified IAPC coach, I assists both aspiring bodybuilders, figure athletes and general fitness clients interested in creating a healthy lifestyle through fitness and nutrition, and transforming their physiques. Through my own disciplines, Taekwondo, MMA, Self-defence and Boxing my training techniques are based around strength and conditioning basics.

n the beginning i was a tall skinny kid who grew up in Port Melbourne some 47 years ago. Never super sporty as a child apart from a bit of local footy. I was into motorbikes and racing them in my 20s. I first went to a local little gym at Albert park rowing club and my mate (who was a rower) trained me so hard that i couldn't move for a week so i thought bugger this i am never doing that again but as years went by i was sick of being a stick figure who had to run around in the shower to get wet, i tried it again but this time i was told about delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS).
I really started to hit the weights at age 27 so i was a late bloomer when it comes to muscle building but i perservered and started to see some tiny little lumps developing. Keep it clean i am talking about muscles ;-)

My Testimonial:
I can remember years ago admiring the physiques of figure competitors and dreaming of one day competing in a bodybuilding competition, but always gave away the idea because I thought I didn’t have the self discipline to go through with the strict dieting and training regime required. I’ve always been an outdoors person, i’d never actually been a regular in the gym before, preferring to ride horses, motorbikes to being inside sweating It out in a gym! Over the past 20 odd years, I’ve probably only racked up a total of 18 mths inside a gym! I found the fitness and strength required for riding horses and motorbikes kept my body fairly well toned with a strong core. However, after giving up competing in horse events and later selling my motorbike, I found myself getting a bit out of shape. Over the years I tried a few different activities, such as self defence training, even pole dancing ( which was great fun and very good for fitness and strength, using your whole body weight as resistance). In 2008 I met Ben, my partner of almost 4 years, who had been working out at the local gym, Gregory’s fitness centre, for a number of years, and I decided to start doing some weights, and i started to get motivation thinking I would get into competition shape from there, well I realised after awhile even at that stage I lacked the motivation required, especially the diet part ( I love food!!) and once summer came I stopped going to gym and went back to doing my outdoor activities I enjoyed so much!
The year 2010 was a significant one for me with my fitness and body image, It was then that I decided to take up boxing for fitness at Superfit boxing in Warragul- where I met the owner and personal trainer Jodie Addison. I really enjoyed the high intensity and the variety that I got from the boxing classes! I felt empowered! I saw some weight drop off after a short time and I toned up considerably. In April 2011, feeling more confident and motivated, I decided to go back to gym as well, combining weight training with my boxing to get even better results and build more muscle, and then when Jodie started competing in her first figure competition, it awakened my dream and I approached her for some information about how to get into competing for the first time. Jodie was very encouraging and we went through some ideas on training and diet and she gave me some contacts for preparing for competition, such as the bikini

Going off the rails for 10 years from the age of 15 - 25 was an obstacle that Dave overcome. Read here his story and why ANB Victoria acknowledged his story to be told at the recent ANB Vics 2011.

We watched her gain confidence and determination has she embarked on her first competition. Her hard work paid off has she won 1st place in the Novice Open Womens out of 12 lovely ladies. With novice at the ANB Victoria competitions we also allow the novice to do a second division to give them a extra chance to have more experience. (We wish we could acknowledge every competitor has everyone has a story to tell) With competitions the judges only get to judge what they see in front of them. With this award we get to really know the competitor and hopefully have their story motivate and inspire you!

"Congratulations to Karla Gambell - From Definitions 352 Doncaster Road, Doncaster South for taking out the Natural Mania Overall Figure Championships. I asked Karla to put together a brief profile and here it is if you wonder exactly what it takes to make a champion? Sheer determination and never giving up by the sounds of it! Karla reminded me also that it started by her attending a workshop all the way back in 2007. At the end of the day competing is a mind set that you either do or dont! And Karla certainly has...Good Luck Karla at the Asia Pacifics we are already proud of you!!!" Maria

As a teenager growing up, I was always heavily involved in sports, including athletics, hockey, netball, equestrian, but it was due to a nasty horse riding incident that eventually led me competing in BMX. After being hospitalised one day after a heavy fall, my parents decided that I would have to tag along to watch my brothers compete at a BMX meeting. I believe I did this twice reluctantly before deciding that "If I was to be here anyway, I may as well join in!" This was to the utmost disgust of my youngest brother who had to share his bike with me! At only my first meeting I took home a 3rd place trophy! I instantly developed a love and passion for the sport and over a 9 year period obtained a sponsorship and became a state, national, and world title holder. I have retired since then after being inducted into the VBMXA Hall of Fame and having accomplished all that I had set out to achieve.

Few Words From Sharon Herself:
Thanks for the email, and congrats already on what WILL be a fabulous event for both participants and spectators alike. I can't wait to be a part of it. If you don't mind, and not too late, may I please re submit my story of inspiration, as the one that I gave you was rather generalised and thus not really very inspiring. I'll start writing and if someone should get to read this, and it make a difference, then that's all that I could wish for. Here goes.......
