Life is always going to throw you a curve ball, but its how you deal with it that makes all the difference.
Back in 1995 I was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident. The injuries I sustained were pretty debilitating.
Countless specialists advised me that I would never be able to take part in sporting activities again. Years to follow proved to be very frustrating, feeling weak and in pain on a daily basis.
I pushed through the pain and after some rehabilitation continued walking my dogs every day and decided to join friend in a local netball team. The pain was always there and would sometimes cause issues but I never liked to have boundaries.
Having my 1st child was a life changing experience in more ways than one. Something inside me clicked. I decided to change my life and become a positive role model for my daughter. I joined the gym and started a weights program. I started to become stronger than I had ever been. The stronger I became the less my injuries would affect me. Needless to say this definitely changed my life.
8 years later and life continues to throw curve balls. The past few years in particular have presented me with many challenges. Having my 3 children diagnosed with multiple, life altering medical conditions that challenge me everyday. I was then effected by The Black Saturday Bush-fires and I have spent that last few years trying to re-establish what we lost, not to mention this is an event that taught me to be strong. Then losing my Dad to cancer has definitely been really tough, however the loss of my dad also taught me to be a strong role model for my children.
I am a believer that being positive, passionate and grateful for what we have goes along way.
Setting myself the goal to compete for the ANB has been life changing, this is where I not only get to prove to myself that I am strong and fit but I also get to lead by example to my family and friends that I practice what I preach!
I want to teach my children that being focused and driven when it comes to setting and achieving goals is what takes us above and beyond our expectations.
Life is what you make it and I made the choice a few years ago to make my journey a positive one.
I believe we all have two choices in life, play the victim or grab life with two hands and reach for the stars…. I know which I choose the question is do you?
